The ethos of the MYSCL is to encourage and help young players make the transition into 2nd and 1st team league cricket.
To achieve this transition, the MYSCL incorporates 'relaxed' rules governing player eligibility which, not unexpectedly, on occasions can throw-up a mis-match of abilities. The intention of the fair play trophy is, therefore, to reduce these occurrences and minimise the harm such a mis-match can have on a young player. Put more positively, the MYSCL Fair Play Trophy recognises the importance and promotion of fair play towards developing young players.
How Clubs Input into the Fair Play Trophy.
During all games (friendlies, league and cup fixtures), players should:
- Show respect for all other players - including those in their own team
- Show respect for the umpires, officials and supporters
- Uphold the spirit of the game.
After the game and before players depart, each team should separately discuss how successfully the opposition met the MYSCL fair play requirements, taking into account all the above positives but also any loss of temper, abuse or intimidation. Such a discussion will be subjective but, by involving all the players immediately after the game, all will have the chance to contribute and some consistency will be evident in each team's award from week to week. The discussion should focus on whether the opposition showed:
A: Excellent support for MYSCL ethos of fair play and youth development
B: Very good support for MYSCL ethos of fair play and youth development
C: Good support for MYSCL ethos of fair play and youth development
D: Satisfactory support for MYSCL ethos of fair play and youth development
E: Some support for MYSCL ethos of fair play and youth development
F: No support for MYSCL ethos of fair play and youth development
Last season, some of the most effective awards came from Teams where each player provided the Captain with a grade which was averaged before submission.
Team managers will submit their grade within three days of the game being played by e-mail to fairplaytrophy@mysundaycricketleague.co.uk. They should identify the fixture, their Team and place the grade awarded against the opposition's name. Each Umpire will also submit a grade for each Club.
Failure to Submit an Award
To encourage support, a team not submitting a grade within 3 days will:
- Lose a league point
- Have their own grade (awarded by the opposition) lowered to a Grade 'F'
- Cause the opposition team (in the absence of a grade) to be given a Grade 'A' (so long as that Team met the Fair Play award requirements).
The MYSCL management committee will review the continuing membership of those teams who 'achieve' one or more Grade 'F's in a season.
The Trophy
At the end of the season, the top graded team in each division/section will be recognised and rewarded with a MYSCL Fair Play Trophy.
